This path into Stockton Wood leads off the permissive byway that runs along the eastern edge of the wood, about 300m north of the A303 trunk road. The wood is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). The wood also includes evidence of Grim's Ditch, an Iron Age earthwork; a Romano-British settlement; and the Roman road from the Mendips to Old Sarum.
