SK6339 : Rectory Junction Railway Bridge

taken 8 years ago, near to Holme Pierrepont, Nottinghamshire, England

Rectory Junction Railway Bridge
Rectory Junction Railway Bridge
Originally dating back to 1850. The bridge was built on the Nottingham-Grantham line by Messrs Clayton & Shuttleworth of Lincoln for the Ambergate, Nottingham, Boston and Eastern Junction Railway. The long span was strengthened in 1981 with concrete covering the original iron arches below the rail deck. The end arches have been left open to retain the authentic old looks.

The adjacent brick arches had originally been built from timber, but were replaced by brick in 1909-10.

The concrete viaduct leading off to the right was built to serve Cotgrave Colliery and was only used from 1960 until it closed in 1993, see; LinkExternal link
