Romano-British Temple
Romano-British Temple
Late 4th century Romano-British Temple site inside Maiden Castle ramparts. Built about 200 years after the hillfort was abandoned, it is thought to have been dedicated to the goddess Minerva.
Maiden Castle

The largest and most complex Iron Age hillfort in Britain, The vast multiple ramparts enclose an area of 47 acres (the size of 50 football pitches) and was probably home to several hundred people in the Iron Age (800 BC - 43 AD). The earliest archaeological evidence of human activity on the site is Neolithic in about 1800 BC.
It appears to have been abandoned after the Roman Conquest, though a late 4th century Romano-British Temple has been found at the eastern part of the site.
