Installed in April 2006 as part of the "Ethelbert and Bertha" project the Queen Bertha and King Ethelbert statues were unveiled by Prince Michael of Kent alongside the Lord Mayor of Canterbury, Councillor Pat Todd. Made over the course of two years they were on display together in the museum at St Augustine's Abbey for seven months, before being moved to Lady Wootton's Green. It was reported that the Canterbury Commemoration Society had raised £100,000 towards their creation.
