SD9809 : St Thomas, Friarmere

taken 10 years ago, near to Delph, Oldham, Great Britain

St Thomas, Friarmere
St Thomas, Friarmere
‘Heights Chapel’, its local name, stands on a bleak hillside high above Delph.
Built in 1765 for a growing community who had no church nearer than Uppermill or Rochdale it is a simple building with a stone flag roof and a bell-cote.
When the church closed many of the 19th century fittings were removed
to the new parish church in the nearby village of Delph.
