The Chequers pub is hard to find as access is via a narrow passage off the High Street. Named after the Roman sign for a money lender (chequer board) it has a detailed history as shown on this plaque. For a view of the entrance to the courtyard refer to picture SP5106 : The Chequers Inn, Oxford.
