NG2547 : St Mary's Church

taken 10 years ago, near to Dunvegan/Dun Bheagan, Highland, Great Britain

St Mary's Church
St Mary's Church
St Mary's (Cille Mhuire in Gaelic) gives its name to the surrounding district of Kilmuir.
These ruins are typical of the pre-reformation style of chapel, with steeply pointed gables and rough stonework. The roof would have been thatched with heather.

Cille Mhuire church is the burial place of the most recent six chiefs of the Clan Macleod.
