Old Suardal
Old Suardal
Donald MacLeod of Suardal (or Swordale), died c.1781, was the greatgreatgreatgrandfather of George MacLeod, the founder of the Iona Community. In 1876, the biography of Norman MacLeod, minister of the Barony church in Glasgow, grandfather of George MacLeod, described the house as follows: "Not far from Dunvegan Castle, in Skye, a roofless house, - its garden weed-grown and abandoned to utter solitude, - marks the place where lived Donald MacLeod, the tacksman of Swordale." The restoration has been well done.
