Lock 29, Kennet and Avon Canal
Lock 29, Kennet and Avon Canal
'Daedalus' descends. This is the bottom lock of the closely spaced set of sixteen in the Caen Hill flight, where the distance between locks is little more than the lock length. The towpath here is on an even inclination of 1 in 30, probably a relic of when there was a tramway connecting the canal from top to bottom of flight before the locks were completed. The locks were the last part of the canal to be built.
