Lazy Beds, Butt of Lewis
Lazy Beds, Butt of Lewis
Lazy beds are a common feature through much of the Western isles, particularly in coastal areas where the thin soils were improved for crop growing [particularly potatoes] by heaping up the available soil and adding seaweed and manure. The long lazy bed strips at the Butt of Lewis show up particularly well.
