NT0152 : The Kames

The Kames
The Kames
A kame or esker near East Yardhouses. A ridge laid down by a river flowing across a glacier during the ice age, one of several in the Carnwath area. The well drained gravels promote good grass growth, the green contrasting with the rough grazing of the surrounding peat bog.
Both kame and bog are grazed by cattle. I was getting some very dirty looks from a cow who obviously had a very young calf hidden nearby and wanted me elsewhere soon.
