L'Arc - sculpture by David A. Annand
L’Arc, a striking sculpture by David Annand, stands in Station Link near to the railway station and taxi rank which can be seen in the background. The work consists of two figures, one on each side of the road, each holding a curved pole. If the poles were to be extended, an arc of a circle would be formed, creating an arch across the road. Annand was inspired by Basingstoke’s close relationship with its European twin towns and was keen to create an accessible, realistic and slightly incongruous composition. L’Arc was constructed from cast bronze and stainless steel and was unveiled in 1999.
