Statue of the polar explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton, Athy Co Kildare
A bronze statue of the polar explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton adjacent to the Athy Heritage Centre-Museum. The statue was commissioned from sculptor Mark Richards by Kildare County Council and has been billed as the first public monument to the explorer in his birth county and state. The adventurer’s grand-daughter Alexandra Shackleton performed the unveiling event in Athy’s Emily Square on August 30th 2016.
