The Glaswegian William Birnie Rhind (1853-1933) [ LinkExternal link ], was commissioned to sculpt the stone statue which was unveiled by Andrew Carnegie (himself a significant subscriber to the commission) at Montrose on 7th August 1912. It stands close by the episcopal church at Montrose mid-links.
