M-Folds
Geologists use the shape of minor folds to work out the orientation of larger structures. S-folds form on one limb of a larger fold, and Z-folds on the opposite limb. These, however, are much rarer. They are M-folds, which occur only in the hinges of the major fold, and this is an especially good example. See also
