This is the seldom-seen view of the inside of one of the enclosed horse cars which were used when the weather was wet or cold. Note the archaic roof construction, probably about 1890. The conductor is ready with his tickets and cash-bag. Careful scrutiny of the fare table on the left shows that in 1978 it only cost 30p to travel the whole length of the line from Derby Castle to Victoria Pier, almost a mile and a half.
