SH7748 : Boulder rampart

taken 8 years ago, near to Cwm Penmachno, Conwy, Wales

Boulder rampart
Boulder rampart
The foot of the hillside is littered with large, sub-angular boulders which are obviously glacial erratics. Exactly what agency has piled them in a line is less obvious. If they have been dragged from the pasture towards the river, then a great deal of hard work was expended, since they are large and heavy. A wonderful crop of haws brightens the almost leafless Hawthorn by the modern wire fence.
