Spring, Birkenshaw
Spring, Birkenshaw
Here, quite close to Lodge Beck, and below the Navigation Bank, a spring issues from the clay soil. The flow of water is causing the formation of a valley, probably not so much by erosion as by the slipping of the clay cliffs when rainwater seeps down behind them. Hoof marks show that cattle come down to drink.
