SJ5794 : Sankey Canal

taken 12 months ago, near to Newton-le-Willows, St Helens, Great Britain

Sankey Canal
Sankey Canal
The disused canal follows the Sankey Valley between Warrington and St Helens. Here we are on the outskirts of Newton-le-Willows. We see the footbridge across the canal, a car park on the opposite side, and, in the distance, the "Mucky Mountains", a former industrial waste tip which is now a nature reserve. The pathway alongside the canal is the Sankey Valley Trail, a pleasant off-road walking and cycling route.
