The hillside below to the west has the name Corbie Hall (Corbie being a Scots name for a raven), with the hillside on the western slope being called Laverock (Lark) Hall.

After a partial thaw of lying snow, the deeper snow remnants are visible in the gully lines of the higher Lowther Hills in the distance.
