No, not giant chess pieces. The oversize 'pawn' on the left is part of the monument, while the stubby 'rook' on the right is a combined trig pillar and viewpoint direction plaque. The green hill in the middle distance is Ellesborough Beacon, while the continuing Chiltern ridge and Thames valley is seen in the far distance.
