TQ2981 : St Giles from afar

St Giles from afar
St Giles from afar
The name St Giles-in-the-Fields seems ironic now, so hemmed in has the church become by its urban surroundings. The saint himself sought peace and rural isolation for the purpose of private contemplation and this must have been the case when the first church was recorded here in 1101.
This view from St Giles' Circus is taken across the heavy traffic emerging from Tottenham Court Road.
