NT9952 : Berwick upon Tweed
Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland, Great Britain

Berwick upon Tweed
Some typical housing edging the Elizabethan rampart wall which encircles the whole town. This fine town has been besieged more times than any other city in the world except Jerusalem.
When the English came bearing swords, the residents would simply throw an item of clothing known as a Berwick over their plaid, hence the town's name name, and then invite the new regime to tea and scones. At the same time they would corner mouth the departees and say, "will ye no come back again". And so they did. Again and again.
