SE4107 : The remediation goes on
near to Grimethorpe, Barnsley, Great Britain

The remediation goes on.
The site is called Park Springs and was the former spoil heap or 'muck stack' for Grimethorpe colliery. The area East of this was contoured and landscaped some years ago and currently Ogden's are on what I believe to be a 2 year scheme to regrade, contour and landscape. Probably where possible recover coal from the stack. The red in the photograph is known as Red Shale and is the result of combustion of the stacks contents, the product was in previous times used as a product for road sub base. In the '60s the stacks around this area, notably Houghton Main would emit smoke and glow as the excavated products caught fire. See SE4107 : New park springs aka Grimethorpe 'muck stack'.
