'Scotland's Sports Performance Centre' opened in August 2016 at the Heriot-Watt University Campus on the western outskirts of Edinburgh. It aims to provide top sportspeople with the facilities, access and support services needed for international success. Heriot-Watt University, in partnership with the City of Edinburgh Council, were successful in bidding for Scottish Government funding of £25 million to create a world class performance facility that also provides extensive access for the local community. The total cost was £33 million, with sportscotland, Edinburgh City Council and Heriot-Watt University providing the additional funding. The centre includes a full size indoor synthetic pitch, full size outdoor synthetic pitch, a twelve-court sports hall, eight squash courts, five outdoor grass football and two grass rugby pitches. There are also two exercise studios, a four-court sports hall and 60x40 indoor synthetic pitch, which can be booked as a whole or in sections. The centre is also home to world class facilities for sports science and medicine, a fitness suite, and there are conference and changing facilities and a bistro kitchen. The main indoor area is said to be the largest in Europe, with a 500-person viewing gallery, and larger than Hampden Park in Glasgow. Link
