Aeroplane crash debris from a C-54 Skymaster, taken 3 months ago
On 7th January 1949 during the Berlin Airlift Operation this aircraft was en- route to Burtonwood in Cheshire. What should have been a routine flight became a struggle for survival as the aircraft encountered poor weather conditions over the North of England, with low cloud, heavy rain and possible navigational issues with the control tower, it drifted from its intended course, ending up crashing into the high ground of the Bowland fells. All 4 crew and 2 passengers were killed.
