Fence crossing moorland replacing a wall
Fence crossing moorland replacing a wall
A curious sight? It's common enough in hill country to find a collapsed wall where the farmer or landowner has replaced the stonework with a much cheaper fence. Here however the line of stones cannot have been a wall... they are too few in number! Stones do get moved for use elsewhere but is that likely to have happened in such a remote location? Could the stones have been placed originally, simply as a demarcation line rather than as a barrier?
The hill beyond the fence is Addlebrough.
