Hole in Charles Waterton's wall
Hole in Charles Waterton's wall
Charles Waterton built this wall right round his estate, specifically to protect wildlife by keeping poachers out. Three miles long, it was completed in 1824 at a cost of £9,000. It makes his Walton Hall estate the first recorded nature reserve in the world. The footpath alongside connects Anglers Country Park and Walton.
