SE3214 : Boardwalk on the northern edge of Seckar Wood
taken 7 years ago, near to Chapelthorpe, Wakefield, England
Boardwalk on the northern edge of Seckar Wood
Warner Gothard bought Seckar Wood in 1923 and left it to the people of Barnsley and Wakefield in 1940. It became an SSSI in 1979 because of its unusual mix of both dry and wet lowland heathland and birch / oak woodland. The eastern end is ancient woodland, changed little since the 1480s. There several permissive paths but no public rights of way.
