What IS this insect?
On a nettle at the edge of a wood sat this insect, bold as brass and undeterred by a camera at macro distance away. What is it? Such defensive-offensive marking deserves to be better known. (On 10/08/08 - almost exactly its anniversary!) Paul Dickson tells me that this is a pupa and larva of a 7 spotted ladybird.
