SE0090 : Peatmoor Lane Carperby

taken 10 years ago, near to Carperby, North Yorkshire, Great Britain

Peatmoor Lane Carperby.
Peatmoor Lane Carperby.
Peatmoor Lane heads north west on to the fellside above Carperby, and once gave villagers access to peat for fuel. Peat, turf or turbary roads are a common feature in the Dales, where it was usual for each parish to have its own turf moor. A good example on the map [though dreadful to walk] is the bridleway which ends on the summit plateau of Penhill [SE045865].
