St Oswald's Tower and Two Benchmarks
St Oswald's Tower and Two Benchmarks
On the large flat stone just to the left of the tower door is an early cut benchmark - see also SD8072 : West Door, St Oswalds, Horton in Ribblesdale, and on the south face of the tower is a later projecting bracket benchmark - SD8072 : Projecting Bracket Benchmark on St Oswald's Tower. The O.S. website quotes both locations as SD80997211, placing the tower in SD8072, whilst most of the church is in SD8172.
