Spondon Winding Hole
A winding hole is a widened section of canal where boats may be turned round, usually close to a wharf. There was a Canal Tavern with a wharf, here, later known as The Station Inn. It was demolished to make way for the Moon Hotel, the white gable end of which is on the right of this picture. To bring things full circle, The Moon is now called The Canal Turn.
