A mossy Chester Waterworks Company marker post
This uncared for Chester Waterworks Company marker post has lain on its side for some years. I think the River Dee bank, in the background, was raised some ago, so it may have been displaced during those works. After taking this photo careful excavation established that there is an Ordnance Survey bench mark cut into the left hand, east face of the post, and 'CWC' and ' 21" ' are cast into the top of the concrete post - possibly indicating a 21" pipe running below ground? A second similar post, which stands upright further north, also carries a bench mark.
