SS8040 : Exe Ford at West End of Long Barrow

taken 17 years ago, 3 km from Simonsbath, Somerset, England

Exe Ford at West End of Long Barrow
Exe Ford at West End of Long Barrow
After crossing the Exe, the track twists around the Western end of Long Barrow (barrow=tump).
The Long Barrow rises almost 25 metres above the river Exe. This mound was formed 17000 years ago, but it is unclear whether it slipped from the hillside or it eroded at its present location.
