On the south face of the tower where the Norman transept was - Memorial to St.Gilbert, founder of the only English religious order. The plaque reads "Saint Gilbert of Sempringham (c1083 - 4th February 1189) Vicar of this parish, founder of a religious order for women and men, was born, lived and was buried here".
