Corstorphine Public Hall
Something is finally happening to the hall, which caught fire on 15 October 2013. The appeal to rebuild it has reached about 2/3 of the £1.7m needed, and a planning application has been made for two main door residential flats at the near end.
Fire in Corstorphine

Discovered while avoiding traffic on the main road in Corstorphine. The fire is thought to have started in a fitness centre at about 10.00 and the local Youth and Community Centre was well alight just after midday. Children were evacuated, but nobody was injured. Many fire appliances were in attendance, and a lot of local roads closed as a result. My only view point was from a road to the south, with view restricted by a wall and hedge. LinkExternal link . LinkExternal link . The next day roads were still closed and 24h after the fire began it was being inspected. It was anticipated that at least part of the building would have to be demolished. The building is in the Corstorphine Conservation Area, centred on the High Street, and began life as a Public Hall in 1892, but the main building, a library extension funded by Andrew Carnegie, was added in 1903. As well as housing the fitness studio and youth and community centre it was home to St John's Corstorphine Masonic Lodge [788].
In early 2017 rebuilding of the eastern end, and conversion into two residential apartments, was started, and a fund-raising appeal to restore the community centre part of the building was ongoing.
By June 2022 a newspaper reported that attempts to get funding from the Lottery and the Council to restore the building had failed. The site was put up for sale, and was reported to be under offer. I could not find details, but in January 2023 it was still under offer.
