Dean Clough Mills, Halifax :: SE0825
Dean Clough Mills, near the centre of Halifax, was developed in the mid-19th Century. With a floor space of over 1 million square feet, it became one of the world's largest carpet manufacturing sites.
Much of the site was developed by Crossley carpet company. However the buildings at the eastern end of the site (Bowling Mill, Crossley Mill, etc) were part of the Akroyd-owned series of worsted mills, rather than in Crossley carpet ownership.
The mills closed in 1983. Since then, the site has been redeveloped into a business, arts and cultural centre putting most of the mill buildings to new uses. Many of the buildings themselves are Grade II listed.
