Used to be run by the BBC and now appears to be privatised, there being a corporate logo on the gates now. For years this blighted the area as far as electronic entertainment was concerned. I grew up listening to Voice of America. You could get it on the telly, record player and even some household appliances due to breakthrough from this monster aerial farm. It was like one of those North Korea like dystopias where approved radio was broadcast everywhere. Television reception was nigh on impossible at times until the coming of satellite, and required expensive extra electronics. Pleas to have a licence reduction fell upon deaf ears. Forget about hi-fi. VOA eventually left and was replaced by the BBC World Service. The land under the masts and cables, is let for grazing. I would not be surprised to learn that it now has great wildlife value, having dodged the plough.

I remember feeling very much at home one holiday on a West African beach and seeing the local VOA transmitter across the bay, an identical twin.
