A plaque in the clock tower reads:

THIS CLOCK AND BELLS
were presented to the BOROUGH of HYDE
Mr JOSHUA BRADLEY
of GODLEY. Cotton Mill Manager
And was duly started and handed
over to the Corporation by him this
day Octr 18th 1884.

The clock is affectionately known as "Owd Josh" in memory of Joshua Bradley.
