Following failure to obtain support for independence in what was described as a 'once in a lifetime' referendum in 2014, the Scottish Nationalist Party tabled a Bill in the Scottish Parliament which is likely to be passed, with the support of the Green Party, to ask the UK Parliament to allow a second referendum in the near future. The debate was on 21-22 March 2017 but has to be concluded, as the Scottish Parliament was suspended because of the terrorist attack at Westminster on 22 March.
