FoxGhyll Country House B&B is located 5 mins from Ambleside on the road of Under Loughrigg. Originally built in the 1600s in the style of a typical old Lakeland farmhouse, Foxghyll has undergone a diverse and colourful history. Having once had the famous writer author and literary figure Thomas De Quincy as a tenant for a short time. The house was later occupied by the Hon. W.E. Forster, MP for the Borough of Bradford and the first Minister of Education. It was during this time in the 1870s that extensive additions were added in the decorative and imaginative style of an affluent Regency country house.
