House, Burnham Norton
Unusually this new house has dared to break local architectural convention. A typical new build in north west Norfolk apes what is deemed to be traditional: flint and brick detailing, red pantiles, and small windows with small panes of glass. I suppose that this is what people want, or what the developers think they want, rather than what the planners demand (otherwise designs such as this would not get built).
I find the predominance of traditional pastiche in new build homes dispiriting. But that's just my view. Untangling the whole thing might be the subject of an interesting thesis.
