The plaque faces South Esplanade near the Pier Street junction. It records the heroic rescue on March 1st 1836 of the Master and the greater part of the crew of the Moss Rose of Bridgwater which lay wrecked on the Gore Sand. The rescue was carried out by the Master of the Fame of Burnham and his crew.
They used a small boat in intense darkness during a tremendous gale and a racing sea.
