Below the Jubilee Tree, Heddon on the Wall
The 'Jubilee Tree' at its best in spring. Although we locally call this a 'Golden Maple' it is more likely to be a robust variety of the Common Sycamore, Acer pseudoplatanus 'Worleei' or 'Worley', the Golden-Leaved Sycamore Tree. A pale green leaf colour is maintained in summer after its striking yellow early start.
The variety is said to have been developed in Germany around 1879 but is now usurped by variagated and more colourful forms.
