Ghost riders
Ghost riders
On 21st December 1997, three cyclists (two brothers and the brother-in-law of one of them) were killed by a drunken driver on the adjacent A193. One more cyclist survived with a broken leg. The driver was subsequently jailed for seven years for causing death by dangerous driving and drink driving. This sculpture was erected about 2002 next to the coastal walkway which was built through the dunes from Seaton Sluice to Blyth at about the same time.

Standing in exactly the right spot, it is possible to make out a continuous image of three cyclists formed alternately from the panels behind and to the front. For this photo, the camera was almost - but not quite - in the right spot.
