I've always had a rather irrational dislike of Neidpath Castle, because my absolutely unfavourite Scottish country dance is named after it. Having decided to overcome my prejudice and go to take a look at it, it was vexing to discover that the main riverside path afforded only glimpses of the castle through gaps in the trees.
