Charleston was the home and country meeting place for the writers, painters and intellectuals known as the Bloomsbury Group.

The Bloomsbury group, named after the area of London, best known members were Virginia Woolf, John Maynard Keynes, E. M. Forster and Lytton Strachey.

The house is a grade II* listed 18th century farmhouse. The interior contains an important series of mural and furniture decorations painted between 1916-1939 by Duncan Grant and Vanessa Bell.

Charleston Farmhouse and gardens are open to the public throughout the spring and summer.
