Claymills Victorian Pumping Station, Jubilee Tub
This is the type of tub that was used to transport lime inside the limeshed. The lime was used to treat the waste in order to neutralise its acidity before it was pumped to the sewage farm at Eggington.
Claymills Victorian Pumping Station
Claymills Pumping Station is a former steam-powered, sewage pumping station on the north side of Burton upon Trent, now restored as a museum and visitor attraction. It was built between 1884 and 1886 and used to pump sewage caused by the brewing industry in Burton-upon-Trent to the sewage farm at Egginton. It is designated as a Grade II* listed building (Historic England List entry Number: 1038427 LinkExternal link ); one of only three pumping stations of this size and completeness to survive in England.
