The Workshop, Claymills Victorian Pumping Station
The workshop was built on the Claymills site in 1900 and became the main maintenance depot for the County Borough of Burton upon Trent. Following closure of the station, all the machinery was removed and it was used as a store for a short time. After this it was disused and deteriorated rapidly, only narrowly escaping demolition. Listing to grade II* status in 1986 meant that the whole of the Claymills site was saved rather than just the engine sheds.

Virtually all the machinery, including the steam engine and steam hammer, has been retrieved from sites all over the country and has been restored. Unfortunately, the original long bed lathe was scrapped, but a virtually identical lathe was discovered in Bamford Mill, Derbyshire. This was purchased from the demolition contractor and installed at Claymills.
Claymills Victorian Pumping Station

Claymills Pumping Station is a former steam-powered, sewage pumping station on the north side of Burton upon Trent, now restored as a museum and visitor attraction. It was built between 1884 and 1886 and used to pump sewage caused by the brewing industry in Burton-upon-Trent to the sewage farm at Egginton. It is designated as a Grade II* listed building (Historic England List entry Number: 1038427 LinkExternal link ); one of only three pumping stations of this size and completeness to survive in England.
